Do I have to book for a whole half term?

No. Although we recommend that you do. Research has shown that children gain a deeper connection with the environment and benefit more from their Forest School experience when they attend over an extended period of time.

However, we understand that this does not work for every family's schedule so we offer a drop in option for all of our classes.

Can I come for a trial Forest School session before I book for the rest of the half term?

You are welcome to book a drop in space for any of our classes.

Can I come with my child?

At Family Forest School sessions all children must be accompanied by a grown up.

At our After School Clubs and Pre-school Forest School classes for children aged three and over we recommend dropping your child off and allowing them to attend on their own.

Children have a very different experience without their grown ups present and they really enjoy rising to the challenge of being truly independent.

If your child is distressed, you may attend with them on their first session until they are confident enough to come alone.

Can I drop in for one week?

Yes. We offer drop in spaces at all of our classes. Spaces are limited so we recommend booking as early.

What is included?

  • Specialist tuition and supervision
  • Access to and use of all resources and kit
  • Use of waterproof dungarees if needed
  • Healthy snacks and drinks for everyone (including tea and biscuits for grown ups!)

Who will lead the session?

Heidi is fully qualified and experienced level three Forest School Leader. In addition to this she is an Early Years specialist teacher, Makaton trained practitioner and a certified outdoor first-aider. Heidi will be joined by members of the Nature Links team. All of our team member hold current DBS checks and have experience of working with children and young people.

How old does my child need to be?

  • Family Forest School is for all under fives
  • Pre-school Forest School is for ages three and four
  • After School Club is for ages three to nine
  • Hooray for Holidays classes are for ages three to nine

What if it's raining?

We go out in all weathers unless there are high winds or sub zero temperature. Our clothing list will help you to dress your child so that they can have fun whatever the weather.

What do you do in the case of severe weather?

Safety for all of our visitors is always at the front of our minds. Nature Links will cancel sessions when the Met Office issue an Amber warning for high winds, when gusting winds are predicted to be over 20MPH, when temperatures are sub-zero and if there is thunder and lightening. In the event of a cancellation due to the weather you will be offered a make up session. Nature Links does not provide refunds for sessions cancelled for safety reasons.

What if I'm going to be late?

No problem! We will send you the Nature Links mobile number in your welcome pack. If you are going to be late you can call or text us to let us know. If you haven't been to visit before we will come and meet you when you arrive or you can join us on site when you are ready.

What if someone else needs to collect my child?

During booking you will be asked to choose a collection password. If someone else is going to be collecting your child you MUST let the Leader know. You can call, email or text from the numbers and addresses we have registered for you. We need to know the name of the adult coming to collect your child. When the adult arrives they will need to show the Leader photographic ID and be able to provide them with your unique collection password. We will not be able to let children leave the site unless the collecting adult can provide both pieces of information.

Does my child need to be potty trained?

Not for Family Forest School as you wil be attending with your child.

We recommend that all children are potty trained for Pre-school Forest School as we do not have changing facilities in the woods. However, if you have a child who wants to join in and is not potty trained please get in touch with us. We try out best to accomodate all Mini Adventurers.

What if my child needs the toilet?

We have a portable potty/toilet with us at all times. If your child needs the toilet whilst they are adventuring we will provide a private place for them to go. It would be great if you could make sure they have gone before they come out.

What if we can't make it one week?

If you need to miss a session due to illness, holidays or for other circumstances, we do not offer refunds but you can send a friend in your place instead. Our prices and booking system secure your child's space for half a term/class and help us to ensure we have all the team members and resources we need to run classes safely.

Can I bring my baby?

Yes you can. Pre-walking brothers and sisters are free on all of our Family Forest School adventures. However, you will need to take complete responsibility for them and keep them supervised and with you at all times.
